Help for my obese teenage daughter Posted Monday October 26, 2009
Question:
Dr. Tapscott, my daughter is about 5'3" and weighs about 250lbs. Just guessing because she refuses to discuss her weight. She is an honor student and plans to attend Howard University next school yr. I am so concerned about her weight. I was wondering if you have an obesity clinic she can attend from 4 to 8 wks so she can work on her weight loss before her freshman yr in college in Aug, 2010? I was obese but through changing my dietary habits and exercise I have lost about 60lbs and continue to exercise and eat healthy to lose an additional 40lbs. I an trying to live and have a high quality of life, as I have diabetes and hypertension. I am so concerned for my daughter but she refused to discuss her weight issues. If you don't have a 4-6 wk. live-in weight loss clinic, is here help for her once she enrolles in Howard for college?
Answer:
We do have a program to help her, but it is important that she want the help. It will require her to make her appointments and follow the program. She would likely benefit the most with the premier plan which will allow us to focus on more of the behavioral aspects and her relationship with food. She should fill out the paperwork before she comes in for her initial consultation. Just give us a call to schedule her appointment. I see patients on Tue and Wed. 202-865-1286
