Terrence
M. Fullum, M.D.,
FACS is an Associate
Professor of Surgery at Howard University College of
Medicine (HUCM). In that capacity, he serves as Medical
Director of the Howard University Center for Wellness
and Weight Loss Surgery. He is also Chief, Division
of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Howard
University Hospital (huhsurgery.com).
Dr. Fullum is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
(FACS) and he is board certified in General Surgery.
He also serves as the Director of the Advance Laparoscopic
and Bariatric Fellowship Training Program.
Dr. Fullum
has an extensive background in laparoscopic surgery,
both in general and bariatric surgery. He received
advanced laparoscopic training from Dr. James "Butch"
Rosser, a national authority on laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Fullum has performed over 5000 laparoscopic surgeries
and over 1000 laparoscopic Roux en Y gastric bypass
procedures. Dr. Fullum has developed and directed 5
bariatric surgery programs and has been instrumental
in center of excellence (COE) accreditations of 2 of
these programs. He is currently directing efforts for
COE accreditation at the Howard University Center for
Wellness and Weight Loss Surgery.
Active in professional
associations, Dr. Fullum holds memberships in the American
College of Surgeons, Society of Black Academic Surgeons,
Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American Society
of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American
Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and he is
president-elect of the surgical section of the National
Medical Association.
Dr. Fullum has lectured
extensively both nationally and internationally, and
has published multiple articles and textbook chapters
on laparoscopic surgery. He is also founder and director
of the Diverse Surgeons' Initiative,
a national program designed to train minority and diverse
surgery residents in laparoscopic surgery.
